GENE, BLACK LAB MIX
Gene was so much fun to paint in all the right ways. First of all, the source photograph was black and white, so instead of trying to colorize it I decided to leave it because it was so striking. She's painted exclusively in black or erased black, so no white was technically added--the white you see in the video is the background. Her portrait is one of my all-time favorites.
TUCKER, BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG
The hardest thing about painting Tucker was making sure I accurately represented all of that gorgeous fur! It took many, many hours of painstaking work to replicate his flowing locks. My favorite part of the painting is his left ear, right where you can tell that his hair has a bit of ringlet curls in it. His portrait was a challenge, but it turned out beautifully.
Sophie's personality is the perfect fit for the Lassie package--colorful, vibrant, and full of life. I loved watching her take shape quickly. The paint strokes do a wonderful job of describing her short fur.
BRINKS, PIT BULL
Brinks was one of my longest portraits, coming in at just under 15 hours of work and it shows! His nose takes center-stage but his eyes still keep you drawn in. And of course there's a reason they call him Smiling Brinks!
